Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tongs
  • Baking sheet (optional, for ease of transferring pickles to the air fryer)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dill pickle chips or slices
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • Cooking spray (preferably olive oil or avocado oil)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  • Pat the pickle slices dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Coating Station

  • Flour Mixture: In a bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  • Egg Mixture: In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
  • Breadcrumb Mixture: In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

Coating Process

  • Dredge each pickle slice in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.
  • Dip the floured pickle slice into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered.
  • Finally, coat the pickle slice with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere the crumbs to the slice.

Air Frying

  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Arrange the coated pickle slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  • Lightly spray the tops of the pickles with cooking spray to help them crisp up.
  • Air fry the pickles at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  • Remove the fried pickles from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or spicy mayo.

Notes

Tips

  • Dry the pickles thoroughly: Removing excess moisture helps the coating adhere better and stay crisp.
  • Even Coating: Ensure each step in the coating process is thorough for a consistent crunch.
  • Single Layer: Always air fry the pickles in a single layer to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  • Adjust Seasonings: Feel free to adjust the seasoning in the flour mixture to suit your taste preferences.
