Blueberry Basil Mojito Recipe – Refreshing Summer Cocktail

The Blueberry Basil Mojito is a refreshing twist on the classic Cuban cocktail, combining vibrant fruitiness with herbal notes for a uniquely crisp and aromatic drink. Fresh blueberries are muddled with fragrant basil leaves and zesty lime juice, releasing a burst of natural flavor and color. This base is mixed with a splash of simple syrup and light rum, then topped with sparkling soda water for a fizzy finish. Served over ice and garnished with extra berries and basil, the drink balances sweet, tart, and herbal elements beautifully. It’s perfect for warm days, garden parties, or anytime you crave something revitalizing.

Ingredients (for 1 serving):

  • 10–12 fresh blueberries (plus extra for garnish)

  • 6–8 fresh basil leaves (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

  • 1½ teaspoons granulated sugar or ½ oz simple syrup

  • 2 oz white rum

  • Club soda or sparkling water (to top off)

  • Ice cubes or crushed ice

🛠️ Equipment Needed:

  • Muddler or wooden spoon

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass

  • Bar spoon or regular spoon

  • Jigger or measuring cup

  • Highball or Collins glass

  • Strainer (optional)

🥄 Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Ingredients

Wash the blueberries and basil leaves thoroughly. Cut the lime into wedges. Gather all tools and ingredients for easy access

Step 2: Muddle the Base

In a cocktail shaker or sturdy glass, add:

  • 10–12 blueberries

  • 6–8 fresh basil leaves

  • 2–3 lime wedges

  • 1½ teaspoons sugar or ½ oz simple syrup

Using a muddler (or the back of a wooden spoon), gently press and twist the ingredients. The goal is to crush the berries to release their juice, bruise the basil to release its oils, and combine everything with the lime and sugar for a flavorful base.

Step 3: Add Rum

Pour in 2 oz of white rum. Stir the mixture well to combine the muddled base with the alcohol.

Step 4: Shake or Stir

Add a handful of ice to the shaker and give it a quick shake (5–10 seconds) to chill and slightly dilute the drink. If you’re using a mixing glass instead, stir vigorously for about 10–15 seconds.

Step 5: Strain or Pour

Strain the mixture into a highball or Collins glass filled with fresh ice or crushed ice. If you prefer a rustic look, you can pour it all in without straining, leaving bits of berry and basil in the glass.

Step 6: Top with Club Soda

Top off the drink with club soda or sparkling water to taste (about 2–3 oz or enough to fill the glass). Give it a gentle stir to combine.

Step 7: Garnish and Serve

Garnish with:

  • A sprig of fresh basil

  • A few whole blueberries

  • An optional lime wheel or wedge on the rim

Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.

🌿 Extra Tips:

  • For a sugar-free version, use a sugar substitute or skip the sweetener if your blueberries are very ripe.

  • You can substitute mint for basil if you prefer a traditional mojito flavor with a fruity twist.

  • Want a mocktail? Just skip the rum and add a bit more lime and soda water.
