Caramel Apple Cider Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups apple cider (fresh or store-bought)

  • 2–3 tablespoons caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (or 1 cinnamon stick)

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

  • Extra caramel sauce for garnish

  • Optional: pinch of cloves or allspice for extra spice

Equipment:

  • Medium saucepan

  • Whisk or spoon

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • Ladle

  • Mugs for serving

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

Measure out all your ingredients before you start. Make sure the caramel sauce is at room temperature so it’s easier to mix. If you’re using a cinnamon stick instead of ground cinnamon, have it ready.

Step 2: Heat the Apple Cider

Pour the 4 cups of apple cider into a medium-sized saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Allow the cider to warm up slowly; you don’t want it to boil, just heat until steaming. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.

Step 3: Add Spices

Once the cider is warm (you’ll see light steam rising), add the ground cinnamon and nutmeg. If you like a deeper spiced flavor, add a small pinch of cloves or allspice at this stage. Whisk well to combine the spices thoroughly into the cider.

Step 4: Incorporate the Caramel

Add 2–3 tablespoons of caramel sauce into the warm cider. Stir continuously until the caramel fully melts and blends into the cider. This step is key to creating that silky, sweet richness. Taste the cider and add a little more caramel if you like it sweeter.

Step 5: Simmer Gently

Let the cider simmer (not boil) for another 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to deepen and the caramel to completely meld with the spiced cider.

Step 6: Prepare the Mugs

While the cider simmers, drizzle a little caramel sauce inside each mug for a decorative and extra-sweet touch. You can swirl it along the inside walls of the mug or just pour a little at the bottom.

Step 7: Serve

Turn off the heat. Using a ladle, carefully pour the hot caramel apple cider into your prepared mugs.

Step 8: Top It Off (Optional but Recommended)

Top each mug with a generous swirl of whipped cream. Drizzle more caramel sauce over the whipped cream for an indulgent finish.

Step 9: Enjoy

Serve immediately while hot and steamy. Sip slowly and enjoy the comforting blend of apple, caramel, and warm spices!

Tips:

  • For an adult version: Add a splash of spiced rum or bourbon before serving.

  • Extra fancy: Sprinkle a little ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick as a garnish.

  • Homemade caramel: If you prefer, you can make your own caramel sauce for an even richer flavor.
